Mingling with birds of prey

If you ever want the chance to stare a peregrine falcon or great-horned owl in the eye, then you should get to the annual Birds of Prey Day fundraiser at the Green Chimneys School in Patterson.
This year’s was yesterday and the school’s Doansburg Road campus was littered with opportunities to get up close with hawks, falcons and owls. It’s the first time I ever went to the event and it lived up to the hype and good stuff I’ve heard over the years. Find some photos, a short video and a link to the story in today’s paper by my colleague Swapna V. Ramaswamy after the break.
From top to bottom, we have a Peregrine falcon, a Great horned owl, an American kestrel and a Red-tailed hawk

Here’s a short video (And I mean short. So pay attention.) showing a gyrfalcon diving down on a lure held by his trainer, much like it does when hunting birds for food.
And, last but not least, check out Swapna’s story, which has a link to some photographs by TJN photographer Matt Brown.
