John Rogers, an expert on bluebird conservation, will present a program on the species at 8 p.m. Friday in the gym/auditorium building at Rockland Country Day School, 34 Kings Highway, Congers. The free program is sponsored by the Rockland Audubon Society.
While speaking with Rogers on the phone the other day, he had some interesting facts about bluebirds. One thing I found fascinating was that bluebirds often share their nesting boxes with other species, such as sparrows and chickadees.
Rogers’ program will include information about why bluebirds declined, why they are recovering, how to create habitats for the birds, and tidbits about local wildflowers, butterflies and dragonflies.
Here are some photos Rogers sent us:
• This is a male adult bluebird.
• These are bluebird eggs.
